Few cars capture open-road optimism like a yellow 1965 Ford Mustang Convertible. The Mustang made its public debut at the 1964 New York World's Fair, where visitors rode in new convertibles on the Magic Skyway. Ford sold more than 418,000 Mustangs during the car's first year, launching the pony-car revolution in spectacular fashion.

This driver-quality convertible packs the right hardware beneath its classic sheet metal. A 289ci Ford V8 delivers the soundtrack through dual exhaust, while Holley Sniper electronic fuel injection and HyperSpark ignition bring modern starting, fuel delivery, and drivability to the vintage small-block. A C4 automatic transmission and floor shifter make it an easy cruiser.

Four-wheel disc brakes, power brakes, and power steering provide confident road manners, while air conditioning keeps the black vinyl bucket-seat cabin comfortable when the summer heat rolls in. A center console adds sporting character, and styled steel wheels give the exterior one of the most recognizable looks available on an early Mustang.

Although Ford built the 1965 Mustang in huge numbers, the convertible was considerably less common than the hardtop. Across its three trim configurations, approximately 73,000 convertibles were produced, representing about 13 percent of 1965 Mustang production. 1965 Mustang production figures Complete with a convertible top boot, this V8 Mustang combines first-generation style, open-air fun, and smart mechanical upgrades in a package built to be driven and enjoyed.
