Custom 1966 Pontiac GTO, Frame-Off Restoration, Orange Crush/Pearl White, 400ci!
The first-generation Pontiac GTO is largely credited for popularizing the muscle car market in the '60s, but it was only a trim package for its first two years. 1966 marked the first year for the GTO to be a standalone model, and sales numbers reflected the excitement of buyers who snatched up 96,964 of them, making the '66 GTO one of the most iconic muscle cars still to this day!
Art & Speed Classic Car Gallery is excited to offer this gorgeous example of a genuine 1966 Pontiac GTO. Undergoing an extensively documented, high-quality, frame-off restoration, this GTO is a unique, one-of-a-kind head turner. The chassis was blasted, rust-treated, and painted, while the body received new quarter panels, floor patch panels, rust treatment, and Rattletrap sound deadening.
And what better color for a TIGER! Originally maroon with a black interior from the factory, it now sports Orange Crush ChromaPremier paint (Ford Edge color) and a Pearl White interior with black carpet. Even the trunk received a fresh coat of spatter paint. Add in the stance, along with brand-new cast-aluminum Pontiac Rallye II style 17x8-inch wheels (245/50R17 rear, 225/50R17 front), and it works to flawless perfection on this car!
It appears no stone was left unturned. Whether original or replaced, this car's brightwork is stunning, from the front to rear bumpers to the trim and emblems. The interior is no exception, with matching paint on the dash, steering wheel, and column. A new black vinyl dash pad adorns the top side, while brand-new gauges sit inside a brand-new wood-paneled surround. Even the Hurst shifter on the Muncie four-speed looks perfect between the factory bucket seats.
Inside the engine bay, tasteful upgrades and attention to detail abound, such as a Griffin aluminum radiator, six-blade fan, and dual master cylinder. It appears the factory 389 made way for a period-correct upgrade to a fully-rebuilt 400ci V8. Go-fast goodies making the engine rumble include a COMP Cams cam, hydraulic flat-tappet lifters, MSD 6AL ignition and wires, and ceramic coated headers. The exhaust note is healthy and heavy! Power steering and front disc brakes make sure it will turn and stop, though we would recommend a steering box upgrade to make it a real performer.
If you want muscle with a stunning exterior, this '66 GTO is ready to grab the tiger by its tail and hit the road running today. It is available for viewing during business hours at the Art & Speed Classic Car Gallery. Give us a call or stop in and take home a one-of-a-kind GTO!
