The Chrysler Airflow
This particular Airflow has the stock 299ci stock L-Head straight-8 engine and a manual 3-speed transmission, as well as its original interior. The futuristic styling is of course the hallmark of the Airflow, although the revolutionary unitary construction also made its share of headlines when new. The signature waterfall grille features prominently, as do the highly stylized bumpers and lamps. This elegant example is further enhanced with period-correct fender skirts, dual taillights, an exhaust extension, Appleton fog lights, artillery-type wheels, and wide whitewall tires.

History of the Chrysler Airflow
This 1936 Chrysler Airflow Imperial Sedan is one of 4,259 built in 1936. The Airflow was only produced from 1934-37, with only 29,600 ever made. Named in obviousness of its immediately visible characteristic the aerodynamic shape the model was nothing short of an engineering breakthrough. It was so different in design that it surprised everyone including the buying public. The Airflow was assembled only during a three-year-long automotive revolution. The Airflow employed the first major use of a unibody type construction where the 'truss-bridge' chassis was actually the backbone of the body. The engine was moved forward, resulting in better weight distribution, and the passenger compartment moved to where it was completely between the axles, improving the ride and comfort. The aerodynamic shape was developed in a wind tunnel and provided far superior fuel economy than its competitors.
